Behind the scenes...
The design and development of our site
We're occasionally asked how mydaisygarden.com is developed and maintained. We've put together a brief summary of the tools we use to create the images, graphics and logos used on the site. Often multiple tools are used to create each element we use. Links to the tools are made available here.

Most development and creation is done on Apple Macintosh G5 with mostly open source tools (listed below). The site is tested for functionality on a Macintosh (Safari, Internet Explorer and Firefox), Windows XP (IE and Firefox) and Kubuntu-Linux (Konquerer and Firefox).

Logos are designed using Inkscape, which allows for clean-lined vector images and ease of layout. Logos are exported as .PNG files and cropped and compressed to JPG or GIF using GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program).

Photographs and product images are taken on either a Canon Digital Rebel or Nikon S4600 digital camera. Generally 15-20 photographs are taken for every finished picture that is used. The images are cropped and resized and the background is cleaned up and fade-out edges are created in GIMP. Images are exported to JPG format balancing image quality and file size.

HTML code is generally written and edited in Nvu then exported to our web services provider.
